Along with Haeinsa and Tongdosa, Beomeosa Temple is one of the three largest Buddhist temples in Korea that were founded by the great monk Uisang from the era of King Munmu of Silla. It was destroyed during the Imjin War and rebuilt during the reign of Gwanghaegun during the Joseon Dynasty.
